In the world of Jap Anime, it’s a very special year as we enter the final quater. Most would know it’s the 30th anniversary of Gundam, hence the fairs that are coming up and perhaps highly anticipated toys at AFA09 this November.
Who could leave out that life-size RX78 that’s in Japan…….even though it won’t be in Singapore (wishfull thinking) there are certainly gonna be lots to look forward to from Bandai at AFA09 which happens again at Suntec City Convention hall on the 21st and 22nd of November.
The press conference was held yesterday as official announcements were made on the goodies to look forward to for this second installment of the Anime Festival Asia.
There will be some familiar faces at this year’s event and some new programs like the one day corperate event called Animation Asia Conference which is a bold step in Singapore establishing itself as a major player in the Anime industry.
Let’s roll into the performances we can look forward to. So far the biggest “YAY” factor is the return of May’n!
Yeah, fan boy alert cos she’s coming back to town for a concert that promises new songs, same energy and a brand new performance experience. http://pc.mayn.jp
Then there’s Shoko Nakagawa whos an actress, Otaku Idol, Cosplayer and blogger………..well this outta be fun. Go check out www.shokotan.jp
This is one of my faves, the King Ichirou Mizuki returns to entertain his legions of fans! Looking forward to another round of Masked Rider tunes! www.mizuki-spirits.com
Or how about Yoshiki Fukuyama’s first overseas unplugged concert. Now as you know it’s not easy to get Jap stars to perform overseas so with the increased line up for Afa09, you can tell they are taking Singapore places in the anime front. Check him out at www.fukuyama-yoshiki.net
A familiar face, Reiko was on hand to host the press conference, you might remember her from last years Afa as the chic who could switch from Japanese to English in an instant……….cool superpower you have, all I can do is switch from English to half past six Mandarin.
Now heres an interesting touch to look out for. It’s the Moe Moe Kyun maid cafe…………there’s gonna be a cafe at AFA with maids in it, well more of the concept of maids but hey it totally fits into the Japanese culture for those 2 days.
Cosplay competitions will definately be happening. Theres also an online Gundam modeling competition to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Gundam. Bandai, AFA and Danny Choo (owner of “The Best Japan blog of 2009”) is running the Bandai World Gunpla Competition.
And there you have it, all to look forward to thats been announce so far. Thanks again to Kenneth for the photos featured in this post.
