I’ve not been a fan of the Japanese Pop culture scene for very long, to be honest it’s been maybe 7 or 8 years but it’s all thanks to 2 of my very good friends who are part of the team helping me with this website.
So I want to pay tribute to these 2 friends (you know who you are) in this article, which is a first for me. I’ve hosted and interview for so many international stars, I’ve met and chatted with the American Idols and I’ve hosted concerts for Jet and Boys Like Girls but none can compare to the experience of meeting and interviewing the Galactic Fairy, the singing voice of Sheryl Nome of Macross Frontier, May’n.
I supposed the experience was so different for me because I’m a big fan of the Macross Series so naturally this was going to be a fan boy experience. Well I couldn’t be giving that impression during the interview so I tried my best to compose myself…..haha! But half way, my fanboy attention was taken away because I noticed something different about her.
3 years ago when I first saw her on stage at AFA08, she was this cute girl representing the Macross franchise but now I saw this lady who was really projecting a lot of passion for her music and being an artiste. She’s grown out of being an anime singer to becoming an artiste in her own right and I say fantastic job.
This is the sort of example for all aspiring artistes to look to. What’s more…..she’s Asian, making her one of our own! She’s been through a tough time coming up and getting into the music scene. She says to all aspiring artistes to never give up and hold strongly to your passions.
Read all about my interview with her here at POPCulture Online.
Danker out!
