On 29 June I was invited to attend the launch of the Gucci “Music Through Time” exhibition at Paragon where also on display was The Grammy Museum travelling exhibition which was showcased in conjunction with the local launch of the new I-Gucci Grammy special edition watch, the first ever digital Gucci timepiece.
Among some of the items on display at the exhibition were limited edition memorabilia including the Stratocaster guitars of renowned Grammy Award-winning musicians, Sting, Billy Corgan, Eric Clapton, John Mayer, Eddie Van Halen. I even got up close with the envelop that contained Kanye West’s winning song
Last year, Gucci Timepieces & Jewelry and The Recording Academy are pleased to announce the signing of an exclusive three-year partnership inspired by The Grammy Awards. This unique fashion and music collaboration will be brought to life through a special-edition collection of Gucci Grammywatches and jewelry items designed by Gucci’s Creative Director Frida Giannini, with proceeds going to support a program dedicated to the restoration and preservation of milestone musical recordings for the enjoyment of future generations.
This new partnership not only underscores Gucci’s own near 90-year history, during which time the House of Gucci has counted among its most loyal clientele many iconic musical artists, but also its commitment to the preservation of the arts.
In keeping with Gucci’s five-year relationship with Martin Scorsese’s non-profit organization, The Film Foundation, which has resulted in the restoration of six classic films to date, this new initiative will support the programs of the Grammy Museum to preserve historically significant moments and recordings of musical heritage.
The exhibition made it’s way to Singapore from 29 June to 3rd July and apart from the vintage guitars there was also a Grammy award on display, pity that this was as close as I could get to it otherwise I would have had my own Grammy winning moment.
I met many old friends from the music industry who were invited as well to grace the occasion. Stars like Joanne Peh, Linda Black and Keegan Kang were also in attendance.
And this was quite possibly one of the coolest doorgifts I’ve received so far.
Inside the already very cool pagaging is a series of 3 Ultimate Grammy compilations from the Rock. Pop and R&B genre. These were the CDs that were being played at the event which is of course in line with the whole Grammy mood.
In case you didn’t know, music has been, and continues to be, a fundamental part of Gucci’s heritage. Over time, Gucci has counted some of the world’s most iconic musicians as fans, including GRAMMY Award-winning artists Mary J. Blige, Eric Clapton, Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas, Elton John, Alicia Keys, John Legend, Madonna, Rihanna, Ringo Starr, Rod Stewart, Barbra Streisand, Timbaland, and Justin Timberlake.
