The internet is something I am a strong advocate of. In fact in recent times I’ve been saying that soon everything will move towards the internet especially where the media is concerned. Just take the recent general elections in Singapore for example, how much hype and exchange was built up as a result of opinions being broadcasted on the internet via Facebook and Twitter. Even the then candidates got in on the act via social networking sites.
Kenneth Wong and I started POPCulture Online a year ago and it’s come a long way in setting standards of a local online magazine. Of course I’m sure there are those that would disagree because perhaps you have the expertise but hey, you gotta admit it’s pretty good for a start up.
Here’s another example of the way of the future – Internet Radio. It will change the face of online entertainment the way YouTube did. Just take a look at your smart phone, does it have a radio tuner? Does an Ipod touch have one either? If I remember correctly, you’d have to purchase a separate tuner to be able to tune in to your favorite local radio stations. So what then, well these stations come up with apps for your smart phones, allowing you to tune in via 3G or wireless network. Even if you’re overseas you’d still be able to tune in.
Sounds great but imagine an internet radio station that not only gave you easy access via 3G or wireless network on your smartphone but it also gave upcoming musicians a platform to showcase their music or even young music producers a chance to play their work on air.
So I’ve been listening to quite a few Singapore Internet Radio stations and came across this one. Sonar Radio. I did some research and found that sometime last year, Samsung and RADIOactive Pte Ltd announced this new mobile radio streaming app, SONAR. I’ve been tuning in to it for most of the weekend and I’ve found the mix of music to be really good and I hope you would consider giving it a try. You might be pleasantly surprised. I’ve embedded the player below, alternatively you can go to http://facebook.sonar.sg for more info.
