If you listen to my radio show on Power 98FM then you would have probably figured out that I’m a huge fan of sports. One in particular is Formula 1 and since we’ve had the Singapore GP 5 years ago, I’ve gone for every single one.
As a host it’s been a bit of a personal goal to host a Formula 1 event during the F1 season here in Singapore. I got close in 2010 when I hosted the press conferences for Adam Lambert and Daughtry who were performers at the F1 concerts that year. I loved it loads but as a sports fan I needed to know the feeling of hosting an F1 event that featured F1 drivers.
Well after chasing this dream for 5 years I’ve finally fulfilled it. In fact it was more than a dream, I got to host 2 F1 events.
The first was the Infiniti Racing Adventures – a private event that was attended by Red Bull Racing test and reserve driver Sebastien Buemi who took on a lap of the Marina Bay Circuit as a challenge for guests to beat with the chance to win an iPad.
The event also gave guests an opportunity to network and view a fashion show featuring Red Bull Racing apparel, Red Bull Racing Eyewear, Casio Edifice and Baby G watches, Pepe Jeans as well as Geox shoes.
The highlight of the event was a special appearance by Mark Webber from Red Bull Racing. He actually flew into Singapore a day early just to attend the event and was greeted by many excited guests.
Just when I thought my F1 hosting experience would end there, I was asked to represent Power 98FM as the host of the Qantas Mark Webber Fitness Face Off.
Basically our very own Emily Teng and local triathlete Willie Loo took on Mark Webber in a series of fitness challenges like sit ups, static bike paddling and a shuttle run. This was all to mark the launch of the Swisse Mark Webber Tasmania Challenge which was started back in 2003.
The Swisse Mark Webber Tasmania Challenge is a premium, five day, multi-discipline event taking in over 350km of terrain across some of Tasmania’s most stunning scenic locations, competitors will mountain bike, kayak and trek different, equally challenging courses daily. As an adventure race – along the way, competitors will be challenged to other activities designed to push them outside their comfort zone.
It was nice catching up with Mark and he certainly showed how down to earth he was with his easy going and likeable nature.
Well since Singapore has renewed to host the GP for another 5 years, I’m certainly looking forward to and hoping for more F1 hosting experiences.
