I had the chance to have a chat with Keiko Kubota, Wakana Ōtaki & Hikaru Masai of Kalafina during the recent Anime Festival Asia while they were in town performing on the 3rd day of I Love Anisong.
The girls were dressed in an interesting style of Lolita and were absolutely elegant throughout the interview. The group is actually the brainchild of composer Yuki Kajiura who is responsible for many anisongs from popular series such as Pandora Hearts, both Gundam Seed & Seed Destiny, Tsubasa Chronicle, Noir and the latest Puella Magi Madoka Magica.
They are best known for their harmony in singing and from where I was standing during their live performance, I actually said to one of the organizers “Have you ever heard such beautiful harmony?”
Among some of the things we talked about were of course the costumes they wear which actually is one of the biggest attention grabbers in their Music Videos and concerts.
The costumes are designed for our songs because each song has it’s own unique taste. Our costumes include some mid European styles, especially the corsets which we think are very unique.

Now you’d think that after seeing this group in music videos or on stage at concerts before I Love Anisong that they don’t really break out in laughter because they seem to be always composed right?
Well me immitating their pose sent them bursting into a chorus of girly giggles and mind you, I’m very proud of myself for doing that.
