I’ve had this new Canon S100 for 2 or 3 months now but it was only last weekend at the Singapore Grand Prix that I really started to enjoy it.
I had the chance to be 3m away from the stage where Katy Perry performed to wrap up the 5th Singapore GP and from where I was you could see 3 groups of people. The first group was obviously there to watch her live and snap whatever they could on their digital cameras or hand phones.
The second group were magazines or various publications who didn’t manage to get a spot in the photopit and therefore had to camp at the stage early for a good spot so that they could get a worthy shot that would be published.
Then there’s the third group of people who were hobbyists or semi-pro and wanted to take their DSLRs out for a spin and who better to shoot than Katy Perry. Then there was me, I have no idea which group I fall under but hey I got my spot and I had my S100 so I thought why not give it a go since POPCulture Online’s photographer was there, he could help me if I couldn’t get my settings right.
I started off the concert a bit conservative and managed some wide shots which this camera does very well. It captures enough of the stage to give you a feeling of the overall set up a feel of the place but I wanted more so after a while I decided to test it’s limits.
1 hour and 10 mins later! I have to say I’m in love with this camera. It’s really good plus of course I had a good spot but just check out the kind of photos I was able to take.
My friend would always say that you gotta “feel the stage” when your taking pictures and I finally understood what he meant that night.
Take this photo for example. Katy was performing “Wide Awake” and I love that song and then suddenly i just knew what I was doing. I had a feeling of what and how I wanted to capture her on my little camera and there you go, I got shots like these!
I’m totally excited to take this camera out for a spin again at the next concert provided I get a good spot, haha!
You be the judge of the Canon S100, check out my photos here on Facebook or you can also read all about our coverage at POPCulture Online and see how the pro – POPCulture Online’s co-founder does it with his Canon DSLR. Oh and since he was writing that article, he actually used some of my photos from my S100.
That’s really awesome because my photos got featured on a magazine and I swear even though I’m the editor i had no say on the matter whatsoever. He really thought they were good and he used them. Damn now I know how photographers feel when they get good shots.
I’m really glad I decided to get the Canon S100 because this was an experience I really wanted to capture and it’s given me so much more satisfaction to know that I did it myself.
I could really get into this stuff!
