Everytime it happens each season, it’s called the “biggest match of the year” and it always lives up to it hype! This season Man Utd v Liverpool was being broadcasted at Clarke Quay Central Square with the Football Channel crew flown into Singapore specially for this broadcast.
Seb and me were there to do live reports for the station and of course to drive the crowd there via the airwaves! We met up with fellow ‘On the ball’ pundit Kevin McCormick who is a big pool fan and presented him our Power 98 styled Liverpool jersey………of which I’m the only one who wears Man Utd…haha!
Everyone was all relaxed before the game, just me and Seb filling our roving reports, chilling and getting ready for the big showdown.
Game gets off to a good start for the Red Devils as we took the elad through a Cristiano Ronaldo penalty but 5 mins later this was going to be the worse night of my football life!
Photos being snapped away as I continue to watch in horror as my team made one error after another, conceding 4 goals after a promising start.
Nooooooooo…………….oh well I tried to smile for a proper photo of the On the ball crew!
Oh the horror as the final goal is scored and the rest of the crew celebrate behind me…..Kevin keeps tapping me as I watch in disbelieve……….those life long Liverpool fans were jumping and I was sinking.
1 – 4 the final score………..I still couldnt believe it. The consolation was meeting Joe Morrison who is the host of Football Channel, he’s a big Newcastle fan so he wasn’t too bothered about the scoreline….hahaha!
Former Liverpool and Chelsea player Nigel Spackman said I was wearing the wrong jersey……….basket!
Another legend, former Everton player Peter Reid was also there as one of Joe Morrison’s guests. It was an honour to meet these great players.
Here was the fun part, the post match interview. Before going on, the producer said be as much of a sad fan while I was at it…………….that wasn’t too difficult. Seb was happily waiting his turn!
“Oh the horror, oh the pain”
All in all it was great fun, even though we lost we had to gentlemen about it and embrace the fact that Man Utd and Liverpool fans can come together and enjoy a match but in the end, there can be only one winner…………unfortunately it wasn’t my team on the night.
Danker out!
