I’ve waited so long for this! In my quest as a Hot Toys collector I came across one particular movie replica back in 2009 that was huge, impressive and absolutely gorgeous. Unfortunately back then I was still new to the hobby and to invest so much on one huge toy just seemed a bit crazy.
Then I discovered how the value of these things increased and how they were like investments in a way but by then it was too late, the Batmobile replica from The Dark Knight had been sold out and it was starting to cost way too much. Each time I watched that film over the years, the craze of wanted to get the Batmobile or Tumbler as it’s called, grew stronger but the cost kept going up.
I think at one point it was going at some $3000 on ebay.
Good news at the tail end of last year when it was announced that Hot Toys would re-release the Batmobile! Heck I flew to the toy store and immediately placed my pre-order for this piece. Of course there were many collectors who weren’t happy as it meant that the value of their own version would drop. I guess this sort of thing can’t be helped because there will be people who will be happy because they can now buy it.
I would commend Hot Toys though because they made sure that the packaging for this second version was different so in a way there was some difference between the original and the re-release.
Hey I don’t care man, I waited so long for this that I was overjoyed when it came in. This was the highly anticipated crown jewel of my collection that I had been waiting for! And if you knew about the rumors surrounding the possible “cancellation” of The Bat replica, this will then remain as the most impressive of my collection.
So I’ve got the Tumbler and the Bat Pod and now I’m waiting on the 1989 Batmobile to go along with my Michael Keaton Batman replica. I think this should be it for now…..or at least that was what I thought at the time I took this photograph.
Another re-release arrived yesterday but I’ll tell you about it another time.
