Anisong group angela is best known for theme songs of anime television shows. Their signature upbeat tunes and rich arrangements is a dazzling mix of electronica, dance, rock, swing jazz and ska. angela’s energetic stage presence and stunning performance brings together atsuko’s versatile vocals and KATSU’s multi-instrumental skills, instantly winning the hearts of audiences in big scale international events like Otakon and Sakura-Con.
So you can imagine how delighted I was to be able to meet and interview atsuko and KATSU from angela as part of POPCulture Online’s support of Anime Festival Asia 2011.
I was really blown away but their showmanship at last year’s festival. The outfits they wore and how extremely stylish KATSU-San was. At the end of the day as an entertainer myself I’d say that it’s all about the presentation because that’s the first thing that the audience notices about you.
So I asked them about those outfits and where the inspiration came from.
I want to show a difference between ordinary and not so ordinary life when I’m on stage, that’s why I dress in more gorgeous, brilliant costumes. When I’m on stage, people are surprised and they can such brilliance from the outfits.

The costumes are also based on the concepts of the songs we sing.
KATSU
Oh and apparently atsuko loves 80s American pop music like Madonna and Michael Jackson. So I told her I was a big fan of MJ too and that sparked a whole other conversation while we were waiting to take photographs.
Funny enough KATSU-San and I started doing the moonwalk while my photographer was preparing himself…..everyone else just looked on and laugh. Guess it was my boots that attracted him cos he was pointing to them while we were dancing.
