I finally got my hands on the Hottoys Movie Replica of Thor played by Chris Hemsworth in the movie. This is all part of my “Avengers Assemble” project since Hottoys own the rights to produce these replicas and will most probably complete the release of them by the time the movie opens next year.
To date they have released Iron Man, Black Widow and Thor with pre-orders given to Captain America already. So all that’s left is Hawkeye, Hulk and perhaps Nick Fury (this one will be legendary especially because it will be a replica of Samuel L. “I will ace you Mother F**ker” Jackson)….Man I hope they do it!
Anyway back to Thor, I love the craftsmanship and it’s improved over the years because now you can see that the facial detail which is probably the most tricky to do is getting better.
Just look at the Christopher Reeves Superman due for release later this year, the detail is so much better than say 2 or 3 years ago when they did a Brandon Routh replica.
In terms of pose-ability, it’s not too bad. You can create a scene of Thor throwing his hammer easily and the parts are not too fragile so don’t worry about breaking anything. I will warn you about the strap on his hammer though, that one looks like it will snap if you pull too hard.
I’m supposed to place this together with Iron Man, Black Widow and War Machine as I begin my “Avengers Assemble” project but I couldn’t help it and decided to try and father and son pose.
Gosh it turned out better than I expected. In a way Thor does compliment Odin because now Odin looks more menacing, really like a king while Thor is more of the warrior son.
It looks like I will keep them this way for a while more. The only thing that disappointed me was the cape, its a little stiff and not as free flowing velvet as Odin’s but I guess it’s meant to be that way. I’m happy at least that they got the colour right.
That’s not the only surprise to come with this toy. There’s a replica of the rock that Mjolnir (Thor’s hammer) fell into. Haha! This is a display on it’s own. You could either buy an extra hammer online via ebay or just pose it as it is with Thor in some other non hammer-wielding pose.
You can even display the packaging and that’s the awesome thing about Hottoys, you never want to throw the boxes away. Here’s a look at the front view, just like the movie poster.
And at the back is a picture of the replica itself so you can sort of compare how similar the craftsmanship is to the original.
Now all that’s left for me this year is to wait for Captain America. On a side note I really hope the movie is as successful as Thor, no one expected Thor to be a huge success because it’s not easy to make such a film but the producers pulled it off.
Now with Captain America you’d think it be easier but we are talking about The first Avenger here and he has way more fans than Thor. Tricky business but we’ll find out come July 22.
