This is a line which I hear a friend of mine say very often and you know I think he’s got a pretty good point. I must thank him for the inspiration for this peace……..it’s been a topic we have been talking about from time to time. Let’s take movies for example.
This is not meant to be a movie review, just a totally seperate blog post. Look at the movie Watchmen. I saw it last night at a gala premire and I was disappointed to be honest.
I had only very briefly read the comic so I figured that maybe I just didn’t get it so I asked around, esp to people who have read the comic and I wasn’t too far off.
The film was draggy at times and it had lots of gaps, the general public who would have succumed to the movie’s hype would not have gotten it. Ans what about the fans………well mixed reactions would probably be a fair statement. With some just appreciative of the fact that the comic made it to the big screen and others comparing how it lacked the depth of one of the most complex comics ever.
Now I’ve read about these mixed reviews online before the screening, so why the heck did I go watch it if there was so much uncertainty around it? The answer is simple………..the Human need to be part of Hype.
So the big question, is hype really tone deaf. Just a syndrome that follows lights and colour to create excitment for a moment which may make it or break it.
Take going out on a date, theres hype to it right……..your friends all excited for you that you have a hot date. All giving you advice on what to do and what to say.
But in the end the hype could just die off 5 mins into the date or maybe the date may just seem ordinary but because shes like your dream girl you ask her out again and she says yes. Then the hype starts all over again, this time for the 2nd date.
It could be nothing more than anticipation made to look more colourful because the movie / date / celebration…….all seemed or rather perceieved to be so hard to attain in the first place. The pure hype of a journey towards it seems to fuel the human spirit for miles until you find that theres no sound left in hype.
Danker out!
